Despite a lot of turnovers... Wings were firing on all cylinders tonight. You know it's a good night if Glendening scores from 40 feet out on a wrister. Hank is playing like a well-oiled machine. Hope like heck he can stay healthy... 4 point night. Nyquist with 2 goals and Tatar with a fight. Fun game to watch.
Now if we can get AA back to inject some more speed / youth / offense on our top 6. |

i am curious about how this gun control works? We have drug control and it is ineffective. The black markets provide that which legal markets do not. Do you have no guns in Canada? No handguns? No semiauto rifels? Completely unobtainable? |

Yes we have guns, drugs, etc all in Canada just like the USA, but on a smaller scale. The problem is that liberals seem to think anytime something terrible happens that the person doing the terrible thing would have acted differently if there were different laws.
The problem is that it's not the case. If you look at Gun control for example, that's just the Government cracking down on who can register and own a gun. But they don't take into account illegal weapons or non registered weapons.
To be honest with the way Canada is today and having Trudeau in charge I'm shocked he hasn't converted everyone to either Sharia Law or Modern feminism. They guy is an idiot and is ruining our country. |

I dont think about the tragedy all the time. Yes it was awful but we live in an era where something like this happens almost every week. It's at the point where I wake up everyday and am surprised if something didnt happen. |

The problem with guns is that gun owners are delusional. They think everyone is out to get them and that they need it for protection.
1) Not everyone is out to get you, Criminals typically just want your TV
2) If its locked in a safe, it clearly isnt for protection. A criminal isnt going to announce his entrance and wait for you to unlock a safe. If someone is planning on shooting you they dont announce it either.
3) People who dont lock it in the safe are the ones you hear about on the news when I child gets a hold of it and kills a sibling or parent.
People want guns because they like guns. End of story. All Countries that once allowed gun use and then banned it later on have had shooting rates drop. That is a fact. Australia is a perfect example. People are stupid and trigger happy when it comes to fear. |

I really have to disagree, I don't own any guns myself but I have shot quite a few, My grandfather is big into skeet shooting and literally has an entire rack of guns locked in his basement. Completely safe.
It's about sport not protection.
Yes there are paranoid people out there who think they need one "just incase" but if they are used properly and stored properly, it's not an issue at all. Plus if someone is trying to steal something like a TV, they deserve to get shot.
Statistically, the amount of illegal gun use with legal or properly registered guns is basically nothing.
Do you really think if guns were banned in North America, a group like ISIS would say "Well they aren't using guns, we don't need them either"... highly doubtful.
People doing illegal things will continue to do illegal things. Guns aren't the problem no matter what leftist politicians seem to say.

Its not a sport though. A gun is a tool that was designed to kill. Calling Gun shooting a sport is like calling Darts, Pool and Poker a sport. These are not sports. It goes back to my previous point. People just like Guns but many complain it is about protection. Yes illegal things will still happen but that doesnt mean we should make it easy. Could someone kill with a knife? sure but he isnt going to hurt or kill as many as they would with a gun. A knife can be overpowered as well. Your argument is like saying they should just let people do drugs or get rid of all driving laws because people will still do these things.

Sport shooting is absolutely a sport. they have rifles in the Olympics and Skeet shooting is huge, both sports don't involve killing anyone or anything.
I'm not saying don't have laws on them. I absolutely believe that there should be safety law, rules and regulations. But I was saying that just banning guns all together isn't going to help anyone.
Using a Drug example, I don't believe at all drugs should be free and open to use, I think they have their medical merits, but someone doing drugs and driving is completely different than someone owning a gun.
The person doing the drugs is breaking the law, endangering their life and the lives of others.
The person with a properly stored, maintained and used gun, isn't endangering anyone they aren't breaking the law and they are getting enjoyment from it if they compete in a gun sport, and yes some people may find comfort and feel safe having a gun... there isn't anything wrong with that. |

Are they obtainable? Sure. The fact is that Gun control makes it difficult to get a hold of one which lowers the gun violence. U.S has a Firearm death total that is 4x higher than Canada

We need to regulate cars better. Toronto is f'ing ridiculous. A pedestrian is hit by a car multiple times per day. I dont know how many people need to die from being hit by a car until the government starts banning people from driving. Irresponsibility in a vehicle that can cost someone their life should have a severe penalty. If you car caught drinking and driving, you should not be able to drive for at least a year and if caught driving while suspended should have a huge fine, jail time and blacklisted from buying a vehicle. Distracted driving should be equivalent to drinking and driving |

So. Here it goes: guns have been invented, and cannot be uninvented. I would prefer we all use swords to defend ourselves thus stopping most people due to skill and physical limitations. However since guns are invented you either have one, or hope people are nice and won't bother you. To be honest, usually people are nice and won't bother you.
Also, if you factor out urban violence America gun death rate drops precipitously. This further drops when drug prohibition related deaths are removed from the equation. If you aren't using drugs and avoid high crime urban areas the USA is not much different than Canada as far as safety.
Btw, drug prohibition doesn't work as far as those who are arguing for that. In fact I'm not sure I've ever seen a case of prohibition working for anything |
